Build a Dog Park in Cheney, WA!

Let’s get a dog park in Cheney, WA, home of Eastern Washington University! We are a small non-profit group who has been trying to build a dog park in Cheney for over three years. On February 25, 2020, Cheney City Council approved a piece of land on the south end of Cheney between the Salnave apartments and the Fire Station on 1st st! The city council meeting was FULL of support for the dog park, and we could not be more excited!! We have the land reserved, the support of the city, and the ambition to get this done as soon as we can! In order to get it up and running, all we really need is a fence. Of course, we want to add a gazebo, picnic tables, benches, and other fun additions to the dog park as time goes on, but we want to have the dog park up and running as soon as possible, and the rest can come after! To build a dog park on the ~2 acre or so land, we will need somewhere between 1200-1500 feet of heavy-duty, 6 foot tall, reinforced chain link fencing to adhere to city and state dog park safety regulations. Each foot of chain link fencing is between $20-$30, depending on the company (we are still looking for the best company to use). This puts our cost for just fencing somewhere around $30,000-$50,000. Wowza! We are trying to get a national grant that would get us 25,000 off the bat. The city has required that we build and develop the dog park on our own, which they will then take over the maintenance. That means we are on our own with funding and planning until we can get that fence up. We currently have under 10 people in our non-profit group, and we have the passion and motivation to get us a dog park in the lovely town of Cheney! There would be a big dog park, and a small dog park on the same property, separated by fencing. Trash cans, doggy bags provided. We are looking to you, Cheney, to help us get our dream of a dog park in our home town/college town! No more off-leash at the Cheney High School track, or at the soccer field, or behind the Grove, or anywhere else, because we will have a designated, safe dog park. Let’s knock this out of the park, every donation matters! It seems like a long shot, but we have faith that all of us dog-lovers can make this happen!
