Chennika Ritchie's Ovarian Cancer Fund

Hi Guys, most of you might know me but for those that don’t, let me tell you a little about myself. Legal name Chennika Ritchie but affectionately called “Nika” by most. Lover of life always bringing the spice. Adventurous, lover of music, dance and laughter. Mom of two wonderful young adults. I'm the only living survivor in my family. Sadly I lost my mom and both of my sisters to Breast Cancer.

On August 19th, 2022 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. As you can imagine, the news hit me like a ton of bricks. I knew something was seriously wrong when my body became swollen all over, my stomach to the point of looking like I was about to give birth. No matter what I did, the swelling and intense pain worsened. I needed urgent pain relief, and my doctor felt the most effective way was to have a Paracentesis procedure done. Nothing prepared me for how painful this would be. Finally, some relief. I felt so much better but never wanted to have this done again. My biggest fear now, is how long before the fluid came back.

I was preparing for my first Chemo Cycle. My nerves were getting the best of me. I knew Chemo would help dry up the fluid, so the anticipation was intense. Before going any further, my doctor needed to be sure that I was healthy enough to withstand the Chemo. I had lab work done at his request, only to find out my hemoglobin levels were too low. I was overwhelmed at this point. I had to take iron, and vitamin shots over the next two weeks. The fluid returned with a vengeance, worse than the first time. The pain was unbearable. I felt like I was losing my mind.

After two weeks, I needed to have lab work done again to confirm if I could proceed with the Chemo. Thankfully, the results were pleasing this time, and my doctor gave me the green light. I had my first Chemo Cycle, which went well. At this point, I could no longer endure the pain and discomfort from the severe swelling. The only chance of relief was for me to have the Paracentesis procedure done again. I dreaded this thought and couldn't believe I was in this predicament again. I knew how it felt the first time and the excessive expense incurred. Despite everything, getting urgent relief was the only thing on my mind.

Sometimes enduring pain for long periods can cause our thinking to become negative. I was determined not to allow this or the news to change my positive outlook or be a death sentence for me. Being the lover of life that I am, this was my motivation to FIGHT FOR MY LIFE.
This is where I NEED your generous and kind support. The Fight for My Life has brought unexpected exorbitant medical expenses. I’m asking for your assistance PLEASE to help me get the necessary treatment to fight this Cancer. No amount is too little. It ALL goes toward the cause.

LIFE IS TRULY A GIFT. GIVING UP IS NEVER AN OPTION. MY FIGHT CONTINUES........
