Cherie Mumford-Stooks Melanoma Battle

Many of you may know that our mom Cherie Mumford-Stooks was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma cancer in February. 10 years ago she had a melanoma removed with clear margins and had skin checks faithfully every 6 months since. On February 8th she was taken by ambulance to Crouse hospital in Syracuse after a sudden onset illness. After many tests it was determined she had metatastic melanoma which had spread to her brain and lower lung. She has been doing everything she can to fight this including brain surgery, radiation, immunotherapy (as chemotherapy does not work for melanoma), alternative therapies, many supplements, a special cancer diet and more. Unfortunately all of this comes at a high cost including out of network insurance expense, many copayments and out of pocket expenses for necessary treatments that just aren’t covered because while highly effective, they are considered alternative. If you know our mother, she is the last person who would ask, expect or want anyone to have to help her but she would be the first one to do that for someone else. The thing she appreciates the most is people praying for her, she really relies on her faith. Because we want her to receive all the treatments she needs and do whatever it takes to beat this, we have decided to start a Go Fund Me to help with the cost of treatments.
