Cheri's Cancer treatment expense help
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Karen and I am fundraising for my sister Cheri. In October 2022 Cheri received a diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer stage 2 with cancer cells in the lymph nodes next to the tumor. This was found after a follow-up low-dose CT scan was done for her COPD & pulmonary fibrosis found a shadow in the right upper lobe, which grew and a biopsy was done. As part of the preliminary tests to start her treatment she had a brain MRI in December which found multiple lesions on both sides of the brain, all measuring less than a centimeter with characteristics of cancer. This finding changed her diagnosis to Metastatic non-small cell cancer stage 4. She was set to have radiation treatment on Dec.22nd to treat the brain cancer all at once but had a seizure affecting her right hand and arm sending her to ER on the 20th and was hospitalized until Dec.22nd, during which she had another seizure. Swelling and bleeding in the brain from the lesions caused these seizures. She was sent home with oxygen, pain meds, anti-seizure meds and steroids. More tests were done on Dec. 28th & 29th and found that the lesions on the brain and the tumor in the lung had grown. She had another seizure while at home on Dec. 31st while waiting to have her brain cancer radiation treatment on Jan. 5th. A repeat brain scan will be done in 8 - 12 weeks to determine if she needs further treatment for that. In the meantime, she is also waiting to find out how they will proceed with treatments for her lung cancer with upcoming appointments in early to mid-January.
Cheri is a Breast Cancer survivor since 2005 and was diagnosed in 2004. This is not linked to her cancer now. She beat it once...but this fight will be harder and potentially longer. As of now, her prognosis is worst case 6 months, best case 2+ years life expectancy as there is no cure for this. She plans to fight this every step of the way, but needs your help!! She and her husband are both on social security and her medicare advantage covers 80 %. Our donations will be greatly needed to help cover the rest for her. Aside from the costs of all the appointments, tests, procedures, medications, hospital stay, radiation, chemo, etc., she has to travel at least an hour or more to get to any treatment needed. Anything we can do to lighten this load of hardship to help her heal will be greatly appreciated.
