Postal costs for Cherished Gowns UK

Cherished Gowns for Angel Babies UK is a not for profit organisation that provides dignified clothing for babies who have been born too soon, or too late. We provide items from 16 weeks through to Full Term at no cost to the families that tragically go through this difficult time. We try to work directly with the hospitals to provide items so that they are available as soon as they are required, but we also work with funeral homes and will accept requests from family and friends directly.

We primarily make our cherished gowns from donated wedding dresses but also provide some that are crocheted and knitted. With each gown a family will receive a pair of booties, a hat, a cloth nappy & a blanket.

We have a large group of 1900 volunteers who come from a variety of different backgrounds, from dressmakers, nurses, accountants right through to stay at home mums, and retired ladies looking for a hobby. Our volunteers are all amazingly dedicated and put an incredible amount of love and care in to each and every item they make, a lot of the time sacrificing their own needs to complete the task at hand.  We have now transformed almost 4,000 wedding dresses and have a further 8,500 on our waiting list waiting to be transformed this year. This sadly means that we cannot currently accept any more dresses until Jan 2017.

We now have an office and although the lease has now been paid for the year we have office overheads and our evergrowing postage costs. Some months these are as much as £800.

A box sent directly to a hospital costs £6.41 to send and the packaging and leaflets included cost £2.35 per box. This means that each box we send costs us £8.76 in total.

We also send packs directly to parents when requested using Royal Mail's special delivery service which costs £7.25 a time. 

Our service is provided completely free of charge to hospitals and parents around the UK.

We are now stock 164 hospitals around the UK. including Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland, and our aim is that this service will eventually be rolled out in every single hospital.
