Cherokee Caverns Flood Repairs
Donation protected
Below is the message we have posted publicly.
We solely run the Cave by Volunteers and share the Cave with the Community with the help from the community. The cave has been destroyed in many ways and is not safe at this time to be shared with the public. The electrical system has been destroyed by the flood and will cost into the thousands to repair. The cave path will have to have extensive work. Any donations will 100% go toward repairing any damages to Cherokee Caverns. All manual labor will hopefully be Volunteers. Thank you so much for any help you can provide towards this endeavor. It is greatly appreciated for our community.
CHEROKEE CAVERNS IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED DUE TO THE FLOODING KNOXVILLE TENNESSEE EXPERIENCED ON FEBRUARY 23rd 2019.
On Saturday, February 23, 2019 Cherokee Caverns experienced four to six feet of flood waters throughout a major portion of its trails and passages.
We have records going back to 1854, and we have no recorded events of flooding in Cherokee Caverns before this date of 2/23/19.
The Cave has experienced major damage and ,at this time, we are doing our best to assess all the damages and what repairs we will have to do to make the Cave safe to open back to the public.
We will be posting some pictures on Facebook and our website of the flooding. And will update Facebook and our website(Cherokeecaverns.com) of our progress and let you know when we are ready to open. We ask for your patience and good thoughts in this time of need and devastation. The electric system we had at the Cave has been destroyed. We are optimistic that we we be able to open soon, hopefully in a few months or so. Thank you so much for always being so supportive and great friends to Cherokee Caverns... we appreciate each and every one of you. Please know we are determined to opening our doors very soon and sharing the Cave with you again! Thanks for being there for us!
