Hi, my name is Jessica and I created this page for my little brother, Bryce Cherryholmes, a 28 year old medically retired Staff Sergeant from the US Marine Corp who is now a paraplegic. Here is an overview of his story from his wife, Kalyn.

"Bryce had previously been injured during his deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan which led to a 4 level spinal fusion. This surgery was not successful and placed Bryce in an incredible amount of pain that could not be controlled with numerous medications (sometimes up to 40 pills a day) or rehabilitation efforts he had tried. Bryce had exhausted all efforts the Marine Corps could offer before he was medically retired from the Marine Corps in August of 2015. Since then Bryce has suffered both physically and mentally from this pain and had done everything in his power to work with the VA and physicians to alleviate some of the pain. Finally, a Non-Profit Organization came to the rescue and offered Bryce an amazing opportunity. He travelled to Maryland to receive the trial and if it was successful, which it was, he would receive the full implantation the next day for a fully implanted spinal cord stimulator that would lower his pain to a more manageable level or at least get him away from the 7-9/10 he had been living with for years. Bryce called me during the trial and told me he was nearly pain free and felt incredible, felt like he could finally start to be the father, husband, and employee that he had wanted to be for so long. We will try to attach a video to this site just to show how amazing this was for him. Unfortunately, something went wrong the next day and he was carflighted to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) where the Chief of Ortho/Spine Surgery performed an emergency surgery. It was discovered that Bryce had a very large hematoma (blood clot) from his T6-T10 vertebrae, near the surgical site, on his spinal cord and was putting an incredible amount of pressure on the spinal cord itself. Although the surgical staff at UMMC tried their best to correct the issue it has left him described by his surgeon as a T7-T8 incomplete paraplegic with a less than 5% chance to walk again . Bryce is able to concentrate enough to wiggle his big toes periodically, but his recovery will be an extremely long and difficult journey. We greatly appreciate all the love, prayers, and support that we have been given. It truly is amazing and helps us to stay positive. This is merely another chapter in our life's that we will get through TOGETHER. Thank you again for all your kind words and support!"

Bryce and his wife are still at the Spinal Hospital in Baltimore while their two kiddos, Brylyn and Kace, which are staying with Kalyn's Mom and Step-Father back in Iowa. They are awaiting insurance/VA approval for a rehab facility so that Bryce can begin his long road of recovery.

Bryce served our country for 8 years and would still be serving if he hadn't been injured. It is our turn to serve him and his family. We have an opportunity to give back to a family who sacrificed for all of us by raising money to help him with this long road. There will obviously be travel expenses for Kalyn and the kids, non-covered medical expenses and finding wheelchair accessible housing, adaptive equipment not only for his daily acts of living but also for converting their current vehicles for him and his family.
Please consider giving a gift as a "Thank you" to Bryce and his family for their service.
