Cheryl Arnold Memorial Adaptive Athletics Fund
Donation protected
We reached our goal and then some! Thank you so much to all who donated and were supportive. We dropped off a check at Adaptive Athletics and will be awarding scholarships in the fall. We may award them over a multi year period. I will be closing this fundraiser but I wanted to let you all know how grateful I am first.
My name is Nancy Linn, and I have created a scholarship fund in honor of my sister Cheryl Arnold through Milwaukee Recreation's Adaptive Athletics program.
Cheryl, who passed away unexpectedly in the spring of 2020, was an amazing Special Education Teacher for over 20 years. She loved her students dearly and went out of her way to give them many different life experiences, often at her own expense.
One thing she and her students loved to do each year was to participate in the Recreation Department's Adaptive Athletics Program, which provides opportunities for students with disabilities. As part of this program, Cheryl's "kids" would go bowling, play soccer, volleyball, basketball, bocce ball, and participate in track and field competitions. They always had lots of fun and learned so much! My sister Cheri couldn’t always do everything she wanted with her kids due to lack of funds, but the Adaptive Athletics activities made a big difference.
If we reach our goal, our plan is to award multiple scholarships this fall. The scholarship funds will go directly to a chosen Adaptive Athletics Teacher to provide their classroom with supplies/equipment, giving their students the extra experiences that Cheryl knew were so important for kids.
