This fundraiser is on behalf of Cheryl. All funds raised will go towards getting Cheryl a service dog for her to continue to live as independently as possible. Funds will be used for basic obedience classes and advanced training as a service dog. We decided on a Moyen poodle due to Cheryl's severe asthma. She'll be $2000 and coming from Utah via a flight nanny that will cost $550. So $2550 for the dog in September and $15,000+ for professional training to be a service dog. This calculation does not count the health and maintenance expense of the dog, but we do hope to raise the $17,550 to get started.
Gloria's POV:
Cheryl is a dear friend of mine. Cheryl can be found watching TV dramas at home and ordering Papa John's when she is sick of microwaved meals. If you get the chance to meet her, you truly will see how young of heart she is despite being an elderly disabled senior. She enjoys an occasional glass of wine and has a deep loud laugh.

Cheryl was an occupational therapist in her 30s. At the prime of her career, Cheryl had a severe asthma attack that deprived her brain of oxygen and resulted in severe disability. She has weakness in her all extremities and trouble gripping objects due to constant tremors. Many things hurt and sometimes when she's unsteady or weak, she falls. In addition, the injury has damaged her optic nerves and she's losing her vision.
Cheryl lives alone on a fixed income in San Francisco. Each day she gathers enough energy to get out of bed and plop herself in a wheelchair. Once in the chair, she can wheel herself around with support. Despite her severe disability, she is fiercely independent, riding the paratransit to her doctor's appointments and relying on meals-on-wheels and frozen dinners. Due to her myoclonic jerks or tremors, she has a hard time gripping objects, opening the door, and needs help with household chores.
Cheryl LOVES dogs. Unfortunately her dog Martini died in 2020, causing a spell of deep depression. Cheryl is now ready for another dog. Since she has trouble opening and closing doors, bending down, and grasping items, Cheryl would like your help in obtaining, raising, training, and providing for a service dog so she can live the rest of her life with companionship and assistance!
Please help Cheryl! She needs it! I'm so proud of her for being independent. We're hoping to raise at least $2,550 starting off to get a Moyen puppy in her lap by Fall 2022 and additional funds to get a service dog trained for her specific needs. At least $17,550 total.
Cheryl:
Thank you for any contributions. It would be the best birthday ever to welcome a furry friend to my home. I realized I really do need a service dog in my family.
RIP Martini
