Campaign to Save Cheryl Roberts' Home

Donation protected
Hello,
I'm writing on behalf of a dear friend in need. I belong to a band of 'sisters-in-spirit' who came to know Cheryl Roberts during the COVID pandemic. (Some may know her as "Prince Charming's Mom" on YouTube - a reference to her sweet Cocker Spaniel, who provides much-needed emotional support.) From our own corners of the internet, we first met Cheryl as Zoom classmates, but now meet regularly over Zoom to explore our spiritual interests. Over that time, we have come to know Cheryl as a dear friend, and one of the kindest, most selfless women you will ever meet. We consider her to be our sister. Cheryl is not one to ask for help, but naturally, we were saddened to learn that she was at imminent risk of losing her home. We are happy now to come to her aid.

A brief backstory: Cheryl was born and raised in the Maryland suburbs of DC with cerebral palsy. In those days, kids with this condition were labeled 'cripples' and were assumed to be mentally incompetent. As a result, she was separated from "typical" kids and sent to a school for disabled children. The assumption was that children like Cheryl were incapable of receiving the same education as their peers. Fortunately, her grandparents, who lived in Washington DC, just a few miles away, knew that she was capable of more and invited her to live with them, where the schools were more inclusive of children with disabilities. Cheryl thrived and was later mainstreamed in school with other children. She went on to marry, moved to Wisconsin & had a family. There, she earned a degree in Social Work while raising her kids. Along the way, Cheryl tragically lost a son to suicide, but somehow she managed to carry on. Now retired from social work and divorced, Cheryl had been preparing for new career in spirituality when the COVID pandemic hit. Despite facing a many challenges in her life, Cheryl is known for her infectious smile and positive outlook.

In recent years, Cheryl found herself struggling to keep up with her bills, and she fell behind on her property taxes. She recently learned that she could lose her home by the end of June if she doesn't bring her tax bill current. To add insult to injury, her motorized wheelchair died last week, and while Medicare has approved new one, the new chair won't be available for several months. Without a wheelchair Cheryl's mobility is extremely limited, so she needs to pay for a costly rental in the interim, money she doesn't have.

Cheryl is not one to ask for assistance, but she needs our help now. As her friends & 'Spirit Sisters', we humbly ask for your support to keep a roof over her head and to help her afford a wheelchair rental. Everyone needs some help from time to time, and we know that Cheryl would do the same for her friends if she could. Any donation - no matter how big or small - would have make a big difference in Cheryl's life. No amount is too small. Thank you for your support.

With heartfelt gratitude,
The Spirit Sisters
