UPDATE: November 2022
We are excited as we continue to navigate this journey to celebrate Cheryl's legacy and create a foundation in Cheryl's honor.
Our family, with the help, love, and caring of so many outstanding people is poised to soon have a documentary, books, a movie, and action figures of Cheryl.
We just returned from the Washington International Horse Show to accept the newly created ETHOS Award for Cheryl. She was one of the 6 recipients in this inaugural year of this wonderful honor that was created to honor African Americans in the horse world. I have included the link to The Ethos Award, https://wihs.org/ethosaward/
Thank you to all and we will continue to update as we continue to create change in this world in Cheryl's honor.
MAY-JUNE 2019
It is with a heavy heart that I begin this campaign. Chery White, the 1st Black Female Jockey is my sister, and only sibling. On May 25th, 2019 she had an asthma attack, which in turn caused a heart attack. Cheryl was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital in Youngstown OH unresponsive. She has been in a coma ever since that terrible night.
Cheryl is many things to many people, a friend, an Aunt, a Great-Aunt, my sister, and a true American Legend! Cheryl is revered by so many people, friends, & relatives. She has touched many lives, and has so so many people who love and care for her. This is evident from the outpouring of love and concern from people, friends, and colleagues from around the country ever since this happened. As a family we want to thank everyone who has reached out and for all the prayers from everyone.
I have had many people volunteer to set up this Go Fund Me. I appreciate and am humbled by all those generous offers to help me with this, but felt this was my responsibility to honor my sister who I have always been so very proud of.
As we navigate this terrible situation all donations will be appreciated no matter the size. I also would like to say please don't feel obligated to donate, anyone who wants to leave a comment, prayer, advice, that is perfectly fine as well, and we will be very grateful for that support.
I have included some links to various articles and stories that have been written on Cheryl over the years. I figured they may be stories that many of you have never seen, read, or knew existed as Cheryl was very humble and wasn't one to toot her own horn. But I have always tooted the horn loudly to anyone who would listen. They are at the bottom of this posting.
Thank you so much to everyone.
