Chester needs a total hip replacement ASAP

Donation protected

Hi,

This is not usually something i would consider doing however today we have had some news that has left us with no choice. Chester needs a total hip replacement asap as conservative management is not working and he is in pain. The only other option would be to end his pain with euthanasia.

We have insurance but sadly it will not cover the full cost which is £6400 per hip. He would need the left hip doing asap as it is the worst 1.

We have already used a chunk of the insurance on xrays, meds and hydrotherapy and physiotherapy none of which is working.

He is only 10 MONTHS OLD!

We got Chester at 8 weeks old in December 2020. All was fine until June this year when we noticed him 'bunny hopping' by the evening it was clear he was in pain.

We took him to the vets the next morning and was told its highly likely he has severe hip dysplacia in both hips. He went for xrays 2 weeks later and it was confirmed he did have severe hip dysplacia in both hips, the left being the worst. Having now seen the xrays it is clear why he is struggling. He hardly has any sockets either side.

It was advised he would need a hip replacement in the future but could be managed with medication and hydrotherapy.

He has been going to hydrotherapy weekly and also had a session of physiotherapy. We were told the hydrotherapy was not helping very much as he is so weak he is unable to build any muscle.

His xrays were sent to a specialist and today we have had it confirmed he will need the hip replacement asap because right now he is suffering.

In this situation i would usually consider euthanasia the kindest option, however Chester is just a baby. He is only 10 months old and he can live a full and happy pain free life after surgery.

As already stated we do have insurance but sadly not enough to cover the full cost and are now in the position of trying to find the funds or we may have to say goodbye. Frustratingly we moved some finances around last month after being told it would be needed in the future. We were getting prepared to fund this operation however it seems to have hit fast forward and we now don't have the time needed.

I hate asking for help and feel so bad about it but we really dont have a choice or the time to get him out of pain.

Thanks for reading, please help if you can.
