Chester's Veterinary Expenses
Donation protected
Hello. My name is Donna and Chester is my beautiful Grand Fur Baby. He is a 5 year old Russian Blue who enjoys his food, head bumping his Mum and having his tummy rubbed. He has a little brother Alfie, who he finds annoying at times.
On Wednesday afternoon my daughter and I were taking Chester and Alfie for a walk in their back yard. Both the boys had their harnesses on as they are indoor cats. Our neighbours dog started barking at them through the fence. This startled Chester and he made a bolt for the front door with his Mum being dragged behind him. Sadly a barricade had recently been removed in the neighbours yard and the dog was able to escape. He grabbed Chester before they could make it inside. Luckily the dog's owner came and dragged him off Chester, but not before quite a bit of damage was done.
As it was after hours Chester was taken to the Animal Emergency Service at Tanawha and was kept there overnight for examination and treatment.
During this examination they found an abdominal wound and also a fracture to his hind leg. He had surgery to clean out the wound and ensure there was no damage to his bladder or bowel. As the Vet was not confident with the fracture and also the number of bites near the fracture site Chester had to be transferred next morning to the specialist at North Coast Veterinary Emergency in Sippy Downs.
Dr Dan was wonderful in helping to reassure Chester's Mum about his condition. He had to have another surgery to re examine the abdominal wound and assess his fractured leg.
Chester came home on Thursday afternoon but has been readmitted to the Surgery this afternoon (Friday) with some further complications.
So far the Veterinary Bills have totalled $6,700 and Chester is not in the all clear yet.
Our neighbours have been very decent and have offered to pay for all expenses, as they accept full responsibility. The sad part is that they are a young couple with a new baby and currently living on one wage. Due to the 'cost of living' crisis and the interest rate hikes, they are barely getting by. They are unable to get further finance and say it could take them over a year to pay back the money.
My daughter was quite traumatised on Wednesday night and couldn't sleep as there were regular updates during the night on Chester's progress. She had to take the next day off work to see her GP and receive a Tetanus Booster and Antibiotics as she was scratched pretty badly during the attack. Our neighbour was bitten by his dog and is currently unwell so cannot work.
If you could spare $20 to help out with Chester's Veterinary Expenses it would be greatly appreciated.
I will keep this page updated with his progress.
EDIT (Saturday morning). Sadly Chester is not going so well still. He has a high fever and cellulitis in his broken leg. He is still not eating or drinking. Dr Dan would like to keep him overnight again and see how he responds to treatment today.
My daughter sent me a message this morning saying how she thought she was over crying but has been overwhelmed with the kindness and support from everyone. It brought tears to my eyes as well. Your generosity means so much. Thank you
