Chey Recovery Fund/Flesh Eating

On June 3rd 2017 Young Chey was bitten by a suspected brown recluse spider in her home in Surrey. The bite was on her inner right ankle. The evening of June 5th Chey's spider bite had become so infected and she was in excruciating pain that she knew she must go to emergency for treatment. In the emergency she was treated and admitted to the hospital. The sad news, she learned was she was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis otherwise known as Flesh Eating Disease. Her life unknowingly was about to change forever. She was admitted into ICU and put into an induced coma and life-support where she remained like that for almost 2 weeks. Her family rushed to be at her side. It was just 48 hours later that the doctors decided she must have a life saving operation and have her right foot amputated to just below the knee. The necrotizing fasciitis was attacking her now on other parts of her body and she was fighting for her life. Once necrotizing fasciitis gets into the blood stream it can come out anyplace and it was. This was becoming something of a living nightmare something we only have read about in newspapers or saw on television. Chey's other good leg was becoming red and swollen and the team of nurses and doctors began making a a large road map with a permanent black marker on her body of the areas that were of concern.  On her good leg.on her arms as well and hip area this disease was attacking her. These became areas of where there was a possibility that if the disease progressed as viciously it had on her right leg and foot there was a real chance that she could lose her other leg. This also began attacking the upper arms, Chey's mom and family were in a non stop traumatic state of total worry and concern. Chey's mom was sick with worry what if this disease took all of her limbs or worse yet her life? The parts of both of her arms that were being attacked needed surgical procedures and had the dreaded black marker marks on them and of other little areas well. Chey's mom prayed and asked all of her friends and family to pray, pray that this disease would not take her child's life or any more of her body parts. As most moms would do Chey's mom never left the hospital, it was for three weeks she slept in the room with Chey, sleeping in a hospital gown and gloves whatever it took to keep positive energy and love flowing to ones child...Because Chey lost her right foot and partial leg without her knowledge being that she was in a coma this would be a difficult conversation for her to learn. When Chey woke up from her coma several days later after the amputation she sensed something was wrong. Chey's amputated leg was not closed up yet and it was causing her continuous excruciating pain, they could not close the leg up until they knew the disease was containedand that they would not have to amputate any further and it remained like that for 3 weeks before they could close up her amputated leg.  Chey attempted to try to feel the bottom of the hospital bed and could reach it with one foot but not the other. Though she still had tubes in her mouth from the life support machine she motioned and asked for a pen, and wrote "Am I Missing Foot" Chey's mom decided it was best to react saying "I cannot read the note" deciding to try to gain as much healing time as possible before she would learn the truth. It was almost a week until Chey learned the truth that she had lost her foot to this horrible disease. She was confused and unsure why could still feel her toes on her foot that had been amputated. She would also learn more sad news that not only did this necrotizing fasciitis take her foot and partial leg  but it had also attacked her on other parts of her body. Parts of her body that would require many more weeks and months of healing and surgeries. Chey will have to learn to walk from the hips even before she can learn to walk with a prosthetic leg. With her depression setting in she was allowed a visit from her very much loved cat Gia whom she is very attached to ....that was a special moment. Chey would remain in ICU for a total of 22 days before being moved to the surgical ward where she still remains. Chey has had several surgeries and procedures on her both upper arms, and part of her upper left leg and major in her hip areas. Because of the multiple places necrotizing fasciitis has attacked her body her healing progress has been a slow one. It was a very long wait for Chey's mom to be told her daughter was fully out of the woods and for several weeks she had to worry daily that the disease could return to other parts of her body and flare right up all over again. After many weeks Chey has began working on her rehabilitation to begin her recovery to improve her quality of life. Her goal is to learn to walk again. Chey has the support of her family, friends and many kind and caring people that have heard of her situation. Chey is dealing with some depression but also trying to come to terms with how she must adjust to what has happened. This will be a long process. This is something could happen to anyone and she asked that question many times of "why me" but all mom can say is "it is just something that happened and we just have to take this one day at a time". Chey is a very loving person with a positive attitude about life and her love of animals and children surpass her. She cares about people and has a huge heart and very empathetic to others. This life changing ordeal can only make her stronger one day. Something good just has to come from this. This is a very traumatic time for Chey and the family. We as a family are very grateful and humbled for all of the continued support of family and friends and complete strangers who have supported us this this tragic situation. We are trying to raise the funds so we can get Chey a Prosthetic leg and the other medical equipment and recovery items. In the near future she going to need besides a prosthetic leg a electric wheelchair, a regular wheelchair, roho cushion, walker, special toilet, and many other unforeseen rehabilitation things. Chey will remain in the hospital for an total estimated time of a few months from this ordeal . We as a family thank all of you for your kind and supportive words, prayers and words of inspiration.
