She:kon! My name is Chezney Martin, and I am Turtle Clan of the Seneca Nation (one of the five nations of the Haudenosaunee) from the Six Nations community and Grand River Territory.
My home, Six Nations, is not only the largest indigenous community in Canada, but it also hosts the largest piece of the Carolinian forest in Southern Ontario, as well as 95% of Ontario's species (flora and fauna)!
I am very pleased to announce that come April 23, I will be travelling to Albuquerque, New Mexico to stay until May 1, as a contestant in the most prestigious indigenous competition, the Miss Indian World Pageant.
I am the former Miss Six Nations 2014-2015, and I had a wonderful experience in representing my community, people and family during my reign.
Currently, I am an indigenous news reporter at Two Row Times within my home community after completing my first year of a two year journalism program (my dream job came a little early!).
I wish to continue to break stereotypes, offer encouragement and support to youth, and honour those that have taught me Haudenosaunee traditions by running for Miss Indian World, with the hopes of bringing the title to Canada once again.
It is truly a dream for me to become a contestant for the Miss Indian World Competition. Your contribution, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated in helping me achieve this dream. All contributions will go towards travel expenses, foreseen and unseen. And please know that it will not go without a big nia:wen (thank you) from myself.
I know $2000.00 is quite the goal, but with your support and much needed contributions I am sure we will come close!
