The Chicago Nativity Scene is Celebrating its 40th Anniversary and Needs Your Support

The Chicago Nativity Scene Committee has displayed a beautiful life-sized Nativity in Chicago's Daley Plaza for 40 years with support from individuals like you. We hope you will join us to celebrate the Chicago Nativity's Scene's 40th Anniversary and help ensure that the Nativity Scene will be displayed in Chicago for another 40+ years by making a donation today. The current level of support does not sustain a plan for the future to ensure the Nativity remains on display for future generations to experience, nor cover the escalating expenses. Presently, the Committee seeks to create a reserve fund. The Chicago Nativity Scene is recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

 

Background: Nativity Scene Costs

Chicago’s winter weather — rain, snow, sleet, and freezing temperatures — has taken its toll on the statues, many of which need to be replaced. Specific examples of anticipated costs include repair and maintenance of the statues, crèche, wood railings, wood platforms, and kneeler — some of which are indeed 40 years old. Statues need repainting, rotted wood must be replaced, and the structure must be inspected to ensure safety for all. Additionally, costs have increased significantly. Daley Plaza rent escalated greatly this year. Other costs include statue repair/maintenance, insurance, as well as storage and moving expenses.
