Chicken Safety campaign

We would like to buy the chickens an automatic door that will open in the morning, and close automatically just after dusk. This would eliminate the risk of them being left out at night and ensure that they are tucked away safely out of the reach of predators.

Raising free range chickens has many benefits and many of you enjoy eating the eggs that our free range chickens kindly lay for us each day. Importantly, free range hens produce healthier eggs than the rest. Eggs from free-range hens are meant to contain: ⅓ less cholesterol, ¼ less saturated fat, ⅔ more vitamin A, 2 times more omega-3, 3 times more vitamin E, and 7 times more beta-carotene than their battery equivalents.

Unfortunately, while our girls will automatically put themselves to bed every evening at dusk, it's getting harder to round them up at the end of the working day with longer days and later evenings. Convincing them that they should be in before their bedtime is no easy task, and we run the risk of missing some, or not being able to get them in at all at times. While I am sure Mr Fox will rejoice at such an easy free meal, we would like to find a way to keep our girls safe from predators.

We would therefore like to create a "Chicken Fund" to help raise the money to buy them a an automatic door kit. If we exceed the amount, this will go towards chicken/cat feed/wormers/vaccinations etc.
