Forgotten Children
Donation protected
My name is Angela, I am a graduate student taking a Global Health class as a part of my Public Health degree. I am asking for donations to help get Tanzanian kids off the street, and back into the classroom where they belong. These kids, ranging from around six to seventeen years old, are alone for various reasons. For most of these kids the HIV/Aids epidemic hit Africa really hard in the 1990s, taking away parents that would have taken care of them. Others are on the street because of physical and/or sexual abuse, or because they were abandoned by fathers who left under the guise of finding work but never returned. Some have run-away for a variety of reasons. For all these reasons, thousands of kids find themselves living on the streets in Tanzania.
My initial goals are to first work with a non-governmental organization in Tanzania to help find kids and give them shoes and medical attention, from first aid to testing for HIV, Malaria, etc. But my ultimate goal is to finally help get them in school. School costs approximately 50 US dollars for one year of school in Tanzania. It is a small sliver of what we pay here for our children, but it can change these kids' lives drastically. Please help this cause; investing in the children will allow them to grow up to be self-sufficient and productive members of society.
Thank you.
