Help children with brain cancer get better rehab
Donation protected
I am fundraising for two charities: Success Charity and Robbie’s Rehab at Southampton Hospital Charity. Success Charity’s vision is to enable brighter futures for childhood brain tumour survivors and Robbie’s Rehab fund specialist medical professionals to help children with brain tumours who need specialist rehabilitation during and following their cancer treatment. I will split the donations between the two charities.
Here's why...
It's all for a very brave, inspirational 5-year-old called Grace Townsend. In April this year everything turned upside down for Grace and her family. Grace underwent brain surgery to remove a sizeable Ependymoma tumour which had been growing between the top of her brain stem and cerebellum. The surgeons did an incredible job of removing the tumour and Grace is now undergoing Proton Beam Radiotherapy at UCLH. Grace is doing remarkably well and doing a great job of wowing the Doctors with her recovery! However, a huge part of her recovery is down to the rehabilitation she has had and will continue to receive. Grace’s biggest challenge is dealing with the impact of the brain surgery, and she is battling the symptoms of Posterior Fossa Syndrome, which has affected her balance, eyes, body and speech. Grace has had to learn to talk and swallow again and is now doing an incredible job learning to walk again.
Grace has been having two physio sessions a day thanks to the amazing team at Robbie’s Rehab at Southampton Hospital, but most hospitals only offer one session a day. The rehab is the most underfunded part of Grace’s treatment and without better rehab, there is never a total cure for brain cancer.
I want to play a small part in helping to change this. In August I will be cycling 310 miles, mainly with my 2 daughters - Harriet (3) and Ottilie (1), in the hope that you will sponsor me and help to raise £2,000 for these two incredible charities.
In addition to the fundraising, as Grace’s Guide Parent I want to play a part in her recovery and make her proud, as she does me – living in Munich means I can’t help as much as I would like to.
Any donation, however small, will be greatly received... and if you would like to join us in this challenge and raise even more money then please dust off your bike and drop me a message.
Thank you x
