A children's book about emotions during Covid-19
Donation protected
“On a street in the city, in the house on the end,
Live the twins Jaz and Jet, both each other’s best friend.
Then one day the world spins about and around
And it feels like their house has been turned upside down!
They all feel quite strange, with their feet on the ceiling.
In this downside-up world, all their feelings start reeling!”
BOOM! Is an illustrated book for children and their families to help them cope with emotions during Covid-19, lockdown and the aftermath.
During lockdown a group of us (a public health doctor, child psychiatrist, illustrator, writer, graphic designer) collaborated on the story of twins Jaz and Jet as they navigate lockdown and a changing world. It addresses the need for awareness of each other and our emotions. Feeling different things at different times to other people is okay, having big emotions is okay. Feelings can become tangled and messy but we can all find a way through it.
Everyone working on the book gave their time and skills for free and the digital book is available to access and circulate for free, so please send it on to anyone you think will love it.
We are, however, very aware that digital exclusion means that there are many families who won’t be able to access this and so we want to print real copies of the book and distribute them to families who may not have access to books easily, be it print or digital format. We are partnering with food bank networks, schools and children's charities in England, Scotland and Wales to distribute the book to those who might most benefit from it.
Our goal is to raise £6,500 which would provide a printed book for 5,000 children across the UK and pay for the digital book to be accessible for the next 3 years. Each book costs £1 to print and the digital subscription is £40.50/month. All money donated will go straight to the cost of printing the book and the online book subscription. If we exceed our target we will just print more books and give them out to more children and their families.
So please, if you can, support this book reaching those who need it by making a donation, sharing this page and/or sharing the book. Every share spreads the impact of this book a little further.
