Children's Coalition for NELA Book Drive

Hi! I’m Amanda Jett, your Bayou Booklady. My mission as an Usborne Books & More Independent Consultant is to spread literacy in our communities by making high quality books available to ALL, regardless of their age, race, gender, socio-economic status, or reading ability.
Did you know that 1 in 4 children in America grows up without learning how to read? That 2 out of 3 students who cannot read proficiently by the end of 4th grade will end up in jail or on welfare? Reports show that the rate of low literacy in the United States directly costs the healthcare industry over $70 million each year. And we can do something about it!
The Children’s Coalition of Northeast Louisiana supports the literacy mission by funding Little Free Libraries in Northeast Louisiana. Little Free Libraries are “take a book, return a book” free book exchanges. Anyone can take a book or bring a book to share. The Children’s Coalition currently has fourteen libraries, nine in Morehouse Parish, one in downtown Monroe, and four in Franklin Parish, giving readers in our community unlimited access to books. And they need more! MORE BOOKS! This is GREAT news! It means people. are. reading.
I’m asking YOU to donate so we can fill these little libraries with wonderful books for our community. All gifts will be matched 50%. With a $50 donation, you can provide $75 in books – that’s 15 books! – to the underserved children and adults in our community. Even a gift of $3 can get an amazing book into the hands of a kiddo who is struggling to learn how to read.
We can turn this literacy crisis around. All you have to do is click to donate. Any dollar amount helps. PLEASE join me in creating a better, stronger, smarter Northeast Louisiana.
