BUILDING ON 55 YEARS AS A HARLEM CULTURAL LANDMARK!
In 1972 CAC opened the doors to its townhouse on historic Hamilton Terrace and, under the guidance of founding artist, the late Betty Blayton Taylor, became a beacon for the arts in Harlem. Today, CAC remains indispensable to Harlem’s cultural life but it needs your help to continue its exciting arts workshops and engagement activities for young people and their families, and to keep them affordable for community members of all ages.

At CAC we know the arts are a critical community resource, and we’re working hard for Harlem! As a vital community arts center in Hamilton Heights, CAC offers:
  • Participatory Community Arts Workshops held regularly at low cost, led by accomplished master artists and are appropriate for both children and adults
  • CAC Gallery/Exhibitions Program supporting featuring emerging local artists drawn mainly from West Harlem and surrounding neighborhoods
  • Local Arts Hub opportunities for artists and area residents to share ideas and explore the role and potential of the arts in building community
  • Artist Professional Development artist workspace, development seminars and information exchange to support our artists and their work

YOUR SUPPORT WILL HELP US TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE ARTS PROGRAMS THAT ENGAGE AND ENRICH OUR DIVERSE COMMUNITY

Participatory Arts Workshops
  • Our participatory workshops are open to community members ranging from 5 years old to 95 years young. Led by skilled artists, classes include bookmaking, watercolor, printmaking, photography, drawing and more.
  • Our Press & Pull Homecoming Series of printmaking workshops are perfect for both children and adults. Mounted in partnership with the EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, sessions offer a variety of techniques, led by master printmakers. Press & Pull builds on the rich legacy passed to us from the late master printmaker, Bob Blackburn and CAC’s founder, Betty Blayton Taylor.

Your support will help CAC cover the fees for our teaching artists along with the costs of supplies and materials so that we can keep our workshops fees low and affordable to community members.

YOUR SUPPORT WILL HELP TO FUND NECESSARY UPGRADES TO OUR ARTS FACILITIES
  • The CAC has operated from its historic townhouse at 62 Hamilton Terrace since 1972. This beautiful beaux-arts townhouse proudly carries the evidence of thousands of young people that have benefitted from CAC’s programs over the decades, many of whom have gone on to outstanding careers in the arts.
  • Your support will help us fund critical priority upgrades to our facility including the purchase and installation of a new track lighting systems for the CAC Parlor Gallery and its garden level exhibition space.

The Arts Enrich Our Community

2024: 55 Years of Service in the Arts:
Today, as we build on Betty Blayton-Taylor’s vision, we ask for your support for CAC as a vital hub for the arts in Hamilton Heights. CAC is a place for community members of all ages and backgrounds to explore their creativity, and for our artists to pursue their work and gain recognition and visibility right here in our community.

Your donations help to support stipends for our participating artists, the cost of materials and supplies for our exhibitions and workshops, improvements to our historic townhouse, and help us to keep the lights on. No donation is too small, please join us in in helping arts and culture thrive and grow in our beloved and vibrant Harlem community.
