Children’s Education in Remote Nepal
Donation protected
My name is Mona Sherchan and I will be running my first ever marathon - the London Marathon - on 23rd April 2023, to raise funds and help children’s education in remote areas of Nepal.
In many rural regions of Nepal, children still don’t have access to very basic educational needs. Several factors contribute such as the distance to their nearest school being too far, not enough classrooms, not enough teachers, and little to no access even the simplest of supplies such as notebooks and pencils.
As a Nepali person myself, I find this particularly sad but I realise that I can’t solve the entire problem myself. However, hopefully we can make a difference to at least a few lives with the funds raised.
Last year my Dad did his first London Big Half for the same cause and raised over £1500.
He used the money to buy educational supplies himself and distributed them to the children and their families directly during his stay in Nepal. The picture on the top of this page is from that trip.
The village was in the Rukum district in western Nepal, where my parents handed out notebooks, pens, backpacks, calculators and some clothes too. They said knowing the kids were getting a small aid in the right direction and seeing the happy kids’ faces made the difficult journey to the village worthwhile.

My parents are planning another trip to Nepal later this year and doing similar work by going to other remote and marginalised villages.
So I hope you can help me reach my target and encourage me to run on with this cause in my thoughts during my first ever marathon!
Thank you!
