CHILLIN 4 CHISHOLM

Greetings folks, and welcome to *drumroll* #chillin4chisholm!!! An initiative that will see me (and anyone I can convince) hurling myself into frigid Nova-Scotian waters for the next 30 days. With the holidays just around the corner, my hope is to raise funds to support the purchase of bicycles, scooters, sporting goods etc. for children living in child and youth care.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am a mental health social worker with a passion for helping youth to connect with their peers, their communities and themselves through physical activity (if I have ever run you off of the Spring Garden sidewalk on a child-sized scooter wielding a tray of ice cream cones, my apologies).

For the better part of 2 years, I had the privilege of working alongside the incredible team at Chisholm Services for Children. Getting kids out of their heads and into their bodies through various types of physical activity proved to be on of the best ways to build long-lasting relationships, to improve self esteem and to manage big emotions.

Too often we’d head to the skate park only for one of the kiddos to tell me they were embarrassed about their old scooter; that they wished they had a skateboard that wasn't a hand-me-down, or have a Saturday ruined when the breaks don’t work on their bike. All funds raised during the next 30 days will go directly to Chisholm to purchase items that will promote healthy and active lifestyles for children living in child and youth care.
