Ainsley Odle China Summer Program

The school I have gone to since kindergarten is a Mandarin IB school. What that means is that, starting in kindergarten, every single student learns Mandarin 5 days a week and is also immersed in Chinese culture. I love it! Also, my school has a program where they take rising 7th and 8th graders to China to study and be immersed in the culture. I applied and was accepted to this program which will give me a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to China for 3 weeks this summer. We will be studying at Beijing Language and Culture University for the first two weeks. For the last week we will be partnering with a local IB middle school, Beijing International Bilingual Academy. Our daily schedule includes Chinese classes in the morning. In the afternoons we will attend other cultural classes, such as cooking, kung fu and tai chi. Other afternoon activities will include visiting the Great Wall and bartering with local vendors combining our math skills and their currency. We will also eat the local cuisine daily. On the weekends we will travel via the bullet train to Shanghai and Xian, where the Terracotta Army is located, as well as other famous sites.

The only thing is that with these amazing opportunities comes a lot of cost. My goal is to raise $5,500. This amount includes all the programming, classes, and experiences, as well as my food, travel and passport fees.
