Chinatown Community Events Funds (Fall to Spring)
Donation protected
Over the summer, we held a cultural event almost every weekend to occupy Beedie's luxury condo development at 105 Keefer. We protested gentrification in Chinatown with our culture, voices, and bodies. These intergenerational events were a success with the community demanding more regular events!
To demonstrate our continued resilience against gentrification, we're going to continue to organize cultural events to reclaim public and citizen-owned spaces in the neighbourhood this Fall to next Spring. Under the new brand name Chinatown Together, these events will continue to celebrate our heritage, foster solidarity, and empower the community. Some exciting events include tea and paint, Chinese school, family dinners, and much much more!
To bring these events to life, we need your support. Your generous contributions will help cover crucial costs to host the events, such as supplies and equipment, and insurance and permitting costs.
Beedie may have gotten their development permit approved for 105 Keefer in Chinatown, but as long as the gentrifier condo building isn't built, it's not over. We'll continue to fight on for our beloved neighbourhood.
The funds will be used to pay for expenses that community volunteers organize. It will be stewarded by hua foundation for administration, and redistributed to volunteers for expenses and costs incurred.
