Help Build a Primary School at Chingwizi
Tax deductible
Chingwizi Primary School was established in 2014 after people who had been displaced by the construction of Tokwe-Mukosi dam were relocated to Mwenezi. The school has no proper infrastructure and currently just has a single unfinished school block which is being built by the school development committee with contributions from the community. 662 children (303 boys and 359 girls) are enrolled here and most of them either learn in Unicef donated tents or makeshift thatched sheds.
The school recorded a 7.8% pass rate in 2023 Grade 7 examinations which is one of the worst countrywide.
WHAT WE WANT TO DO
Citizens Initiative is a non-profit that has been working with communities across Zimbabwe to help build safe learning spaces. We build low cost buildings using local builders and local help. It usually takes Citizens Initiative 30-40 days to complete a school block. Our goal is to build 4 two-classroom-blocks which should be able to accommodate 320 students at a time. Ideally though, the school requires 8 blocks and teachers residences. The cost to build a block without furnishings is around $25 000 with furnishings costing a urther $5000
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP
Most of the work that Citizens Initiative has done over the past 5 years have been funded by ordinary people who spare $10 or more. Citizens Initiative's commitment to you is full transparency and timely updates of the progress.
