Chips Femoral Head Ostectomy Surgery

Donation protected
Chip's was born on May 24th, 2019 and just turned 3 years old but you wouldn't know it by watching him walk around the house and yard. About a year ago Chip started really slowing down and wasn't the normal puppy we knew him to be. We purchased Chip and his littermate Charlie at the same time and they were always playing together but suddenly that changed. Chip didn't seem to want to play and run as much and eventually began just sitting and staring at the wall. He would cry when he went to lay down and only sleeps on his back (upside down). I thought perhaps he had eaten something he shouldn't have when the crying started and immediately took him to the vet. I wasn't prepared for the vet to tell me he had a severe case of hip dysplasia in both hips. I took Chip for a second opinion partially bc I was hoping this wasn't true. He was sedated and xrays were taken and the vet confirmed what I feared. We called several specialists in our area and were told we had the option of a FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) or total hip replacement which could be upwards of $14,000.

Chip is an amazing dog with so much more life left to live. He is loving and a companion to everyone in our house. His brother's Charlie and Cooper desperately want him to get better so they can play with him as well. The most Chip can do is lay and watch them play as he is in too much pain to run or even stand for that long. Right now he is on Rimadyl (2x per day), Dasuquin & Gabapentin (2x per day) just to make him comfortable. We are hoping to be able to help him to live out the rest of his years running and playing with his brothers and his human bother and sister.
