Chirag Foundation
I am part of the Chirag East Bay Youth team and I am leading a campaign to rescue tribal children from child labor by providing self-employment opportunities for their parents.
The Gond tribes in India find themselves caught in a decades-long conflict between armed Maoists and the police. Not much support is reaching out to their schools or villages.
Tiryani is a Mandal in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district of Telangana state (a local government area, similar to a county in the USA) a #deep_forest_area, heavily impacted by this conflict. Many scheduled tribe families in this Mandal lost income during this pandemic and are facing hunger threats.
Although it can be regretful, kids dropped out of school to help the families survive during this pandemic.
The tribes who do end up going to school and other places are struggling to commute because of the bad roads and transportation. Most families do not even have proper footwear like shoes or sandals.
Chirag is supporting these tribal communities by working with local groups. Initially, Chirag started providing one week of groceries and a few pieces of equipment (referenced in the pictures). However, buying groceries for a week is not going to solve the problem in the long term. To engage them in long-term jobs, Chirag is planning to donate a few machines to families in need. Each machine may cost anywhere between 1000$ and 1500$.
These conditions are only getting worse as time flies. While one side of the Earth is sheltered and prospering, the other is full of agony and hard work. The least we could do is to provide an opportunity to improve the quality of tribes' lives.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and I will keep you posted with updates.
Best Regards,
Saaketh Aluri
