Chispita's Final goodbye
Donation protected
It is with a heavy heart, that I had to muster the sinew to create this gofundme for my grandmother. Martha L. Edwards aka "Chispita". On Sunday March 24th 2019, 1 day after my baby shower, I received a call that my grandmother had fallen while walking downtown(as she did every day for the last 50 or so years). She had injured her head badly and was taken to the E.R. Upon placing her in a robe the medical staff noticed a large wound on her chest and felt it was imperative to get X-Rays and Scans to insure there was no internal bleeding. Well...there was no internal bleeding. But they did find stage 4 cancer, In her breast, liver and spine, not to mention her wound was so severe it was infected and the infection caused fluid to collect in one of her lungs. For those of you that know my grandmother, you know she is a fierce , a little firecracker, full of life, and independant to the Max. She worked until she was forced to retire and still she would go to Silvas to work for free lol.She walked to every destination. She never experienced travel because she was mortified of planes, and it took us years to convince her to ride in a vehicle. She is known quite well in our Barrio"El Segundo" . If you listen to Matute a Latin radio talk show early in the mornings on KBNA you may recognize her nickname "Chispita". She was a single mother of 3 and she managed to raise hardworking kids and always contribute financially to her children and many others. She always had a gift in her purse for a stranger and never missed church on Sundays. She was given 3-6 months to live, she turns 85 on April 22nd. We are working together as a family to get all funeral expenses paid. The total with funeral and cemetary services is about $9,000. Sadly she had no life insurance in place, and one as family never really prepares for these moments .(eventhough we totally should!) We are now scrambeling against time. Because of her age she will not be given treatment such as chemo or radiation. As mentioned the few of us in our family that can financially contribute to her funeral services are doing the best we can within our means and time frame to do so. We must pay off services quickly because we truly do not know how much time we have left with her. If you can help my family and I in any way shape or form, we would be humbled and grateful. We understand if you can not financially donate towards her funeral expenses and that is why we also ask for your prayers. Prayers go a longer way than any dollar ever will. If she ever influenced, touched your life, impacted you or helped you in any way and you would like to vist her, reach out to me so we can coordinate a visit. She may be sick but she loves the spotlight and attention. Thank you all for reading, for praying and in advance for helping. It is truly difficult to have to reach out to a community of my friends for such and intimate moment in ones life, but I do know in my heart that often in life we must put pride aside and face some of lifes difficult seasons with humility, I am a firm believer that we reap what we sew in this life. I know for a fact I have sewn countless good seeds and I am 100% sure my grandmother has done the exact same, and not once did she or I ever do it to expect anything in return, because if you give to be remembered or to receive then, you do not understand what it fully means to give. Thank you All for your time and may God bless you all of you!
