The cost of a Family

Donation protected
Really long story short... We've been going through a bit of a tough time and could do with a bit of a hand with something.

We are Kate and Matt and this is our story.

We've been together 9 years and we've worked really hard to build up a life to be able to start a family and to look after our children. Three years ago we decided to start trying and I fell pregnant straight away with a little boy, Alfie. Absolutely unaware of what was going to happen, we were stunned, happy and excited. At 20 weeks we were told that Alfie was really really poorly. Had we continued with the pregnancy, he would have most likely had a short and really painful life. There is no way we could do that to him so we felt we had to end the pregnancy and I had him at 23 weeks.

Test after test followed that and the most agonising wait to find out if there could be a genetic cause and if it was likely to happen again.

After getting the all clear we tried again and fell pregnant with another little boy. The wait for the 20 week scan was absolutely horrible but when we got the all clear it was a relief. Again at 30 weeks we were told all was well and he was a healthy little boy. At 32 weeks our little boy passed from what we are told is a cord incident. We will never get an answer or a reason.

There was more sadness to follow but we have now decided to follow a different path. We just might need a little bit of a hand to get there.

We are going down the route of IVF to be able to go through a journey of surrogacy. As with everything in life, this has cost - and it's cost a lot more than we thought it would just because of added 'extras'. The IVF has cost us over £16,000 and added to that there is a chance we may have to do another round which would be probably about another £10,000. If we are lucky enough that we don't have to do this then we would use the funds to start paying back the amazing people who have supported us this far.

This isn't a sob story because, unlike lots of other stories, we are just hoping that this will have a happy ending and we really want to be able to continue to see that.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
