Chloe - Vancouver Island Champion

On January 26, 2020, Chloe was on the soccer field scoring a goal for her team, Vancouver Island Wave. Three days later, on the 29th, Chloe, Langford student and premier league soccer player, was med-evac’d to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver to treat a large abdominal tumour. After a 6 ½ hour surgery, her doctors determined that the tumour could not be removed without compromising other vital organs. Later they confirmed a diagnosis of B cell non-hodgkins lymphoma. Due to the location of the tumour and other complicating health factors, Chloe must stay in the hospital on the mainland for the duration of her treatment, currently anticipated to be 6 months.

Chloe is receiving excellent care at BC Children’s Hospital. She has a positive attitude and is gearing up to apply the energy she normally reserves for the soccer field to her fight with cancer! Her treatment has begun and she needs her parents with her in order to maintain her spirits and get her through the unpleasant side-effects of chemotherapy.

Any of us who live on Vancouver Island can relate to the dilemma Chloe’s parents are facing. They need to be on the mainland with their daughter and they need to be on the island in order to maintain their jobs and households. Prioritizing their daughter results in a significant amount of unpaid time off work (even with shift shuffling), lots of time on BC Ferries and many incidental expenses that insurance, benefits and charities don’t cover.

We (Chloe’s teammates) wish to raise funds in order to minimize the financial stress and strain so Chloe can always have a parent with her on the mainland to love, motivate and care for her as she takes on the toughest competitor she’s faced so far.

Any unused funds will be donated to other island families who face similar circumstances.
