Chloe Dickens Masters in Violin NYC fund
Donation protected
I was offered an amazing opportunity to study for a music masters in violin with Daniel Phillips at one of the finest music schools in the world - the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, New York, USA. Alumni include Carole King, Paul Simon and conductor JoAnn Falletta.
Unfortunately, the UK does not allow me to use my student loan to study a masters overseas.
In addition to the tuition fees, there are further costs to cover accommodation, meals, US healthcare , travel and books. So far, I have received generous support from my family and charitable foundations of £40,000. This leaves me with a balance of c.£35,000 ($42,000) to secure.
I have written over 200 letters to charities and foundations to obtain funding. So far, I have raised nearly 60% of the funds, but it's not enough and though I have commenced my studies I don’t have enough funds to complete them.
Queens College’s standards of teaching, performance and preparation for a professional career are outstanding. The chance to study with world-renowned violinist, Daniel Phillips, whose collaborators are Yo-Yo Ma, Gidon Kremer and Kim Kashkashian - household names of classical music, is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Making a good living is challenging as a musician and Queens College has a 99% placement rate for music education graduates. Since 1980 the faculty and alumni have been nominated for or won over 100 Grammy Awards.
I will use this amazing opportunity to study at Queens to contribute to the wider community through teaching and inspiring young people about the power of music.
Any support you offer me to help realize my dream to make this first step in my career will be most gratefully received.
