UPDATE
September 21 2023

Hi everyone, It’s been a few months.

I first want to say thank you. Thank you for showing Chris how deep his community runs. I think what you all did was magic. The amount of love and care that you showed not only through your contributions but also your messages, calls, and visits got Chris through some really hard times this summer… I promise you.

Speaking of this summer. It was a hard one. Chris had chemo therapy once a week and radiation therapy 5 days a week, Monday - Friday. I think you that if you kept with him on instagram it might have been hard to tell that he was undergoing a full schedule of cancer therapies. Personally, I think he made it look easy. It wasn’t though. A few of us were told how hard it was over the phone. A few of us were told in person. But as you can imagine, it wasn’t only physically taxing but also emotionally draining. Somedays seemed never ending, riddled with pain and confusion. But again, you’d be hard pressed to tell.

That’s clearly because Chris is a fighter.

He’s strong, resilient, and determined. Those traits are fundamental to who he is. They are what got him through the summer and are also what will get him through the next phase of treatment.

To be clear, the therapies worked! His tumors have shrunk! So now it was time to remove as much of them as possible.

Chris had surgery this past Monday September 18th. It was meant to be a 4-6 hour procedure but ended up clocking in at 10 hours, breaking the record for longest surgery ever at St. Jude’s Medical Center in Fullerton. It went as planned though and he’s already very much on the road to recovery.

According to the surgeons the recovery period can vary depending on various circumstances. He could be ready for the world mid-November but it can also be in early January.

Again, our current financial support systems are not enough or have flat out failed Chris. He wasn’t approved for cash assistance or EBT and who knows when or if he will be. So again, we need your help.

Rent, food, and transportation will surely add up as he heals and we need you to pitch in to help ease that burden.

All contributions go directly to Chris and his recovery.

Thank you,

Little Chris.

Original Post
Hi, we're the friends and family of Chris Chavez and we’re starting this GoFundMe on his behalf. Chris was recently diagnosed with Stage 2 esophageal cancer. Chris just turned 40 years old. He's a loving son, brother, and friend. He’s impacted so many lives over the years with his DJ’ing, cooking, and larger than life spirit. We hope this fund is able to help Chris financially as he undertakes what can be a very challenging battle. Earlier this year Chris began to find it difficult to swallow. Meals became an arduous process at best and at worst he would end up not being able to eat at all. As Chris started to seek medical attention his symptoms only worsened. Meals became not only difficult to consume, but also difficult to digest, leading to intense bouts of acid indigestion, nausea, and regurgitation. He’s lost nearly 50 pounds in a matter of weeks and still the doctors did not have a diagnosis. Chris has only recently been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and is now racing the clock to make sure the cancer does not spread. Chris has many challenges to overcome, but if we know anything about our friend we know that he’s determined, resilient, and strong. He’ll be starting chemo therapy soon with the possibility of radiation therapy on the table. Even with all of that, he still might need surgery to fully rid his body of the cancer. The therapies and recovery time will surely take a toll on him, his friends and family, and his finances. Chris will be without income for at least a year, so we are asking you to help him by donating to his cost of living, recovery, and comfort expenses. Any contribution is meaningful, and we humbly ask you for your support. Please help Chris FIGHT & BEAT cancer
