Chris Chessers road to recovery after accident

Donation protected
Hi there, my name is Alexis. I am Chris' wife. We have really struggled with not wanting to ask people for anything but in this unexpected series of events this is what we are faced with....After almost 3 weeks of Covid and then RSV my husband Chris, was feeling well enough and wanted to go outside to get some fresh air. He decided to journey down the road on his electric scooter. I noticed it was starting to get dark so I called him just to be sure everything was okay, and this phone call changed our lives. He picked up and said "I woke up in the back of an ambulance and I don't know what happened." I ran outside and could see the ambulance a few houses down and packed my kids up in the car and hurried to see what happened. A witness stated they watched him lose control and crash into a ditch with a cement storm drain. He was traveling around 37 MPH. Once he arrived at the hospital, we were told he had a 5mm brain bleed, broken clavicle, broken scapula, sinus fractures, and broken pelvis in 2 places on his left side. The drs decided clavicle surgery was necessary because of the way it snapped in half so he had surgery on June 8th. We were released from ORMC on the 10th. Fast forward 4 days later, he is having agonizing headaches, and nothing was touching the pain. We decided to drive to shands in gainesville for a second opinion. This decision probably saved my husband's life. We were informed that his brain bleed had gotten worse and infact grew 3 times larger than when we were released from ORMC. Neurosurgery was immediately contacted and within a matter of hours my husband underwent a brain surgery called a craniotomy to stop the bleeding and removed the blood clot. Thank God, surgery was a success and he is still alive and now we are in recovery mode. We were informed this road to recovery isn't going to be days or weeks but months and months to come. Neither of us have been working because I am 5 1/2 months pregnant with our 1st son and I had been having some complications so my dr ordered a temporary bed rest restriction for me. I am now going to have to step up and take care of him fulltime until we are at a safe point for him to be more independent. We currently have beautiful 4 daughters who are relying on us to make sure our needs our met which is what brings us to this campaign. Chris has share-of- cost Medicaid which is almost considered not Insured because we must meet a 2000-3000$ a month deductible before insurance will pay for anything. Any money donated will go directly to Rent, Utilities, gas to and from appts, medical expenses not covered, food, ect for our family. Please do not feel like you are obligated to donate. We understand everyone is struggling financially right now. If you would like to donate, any amount is appreciated....thank you for taking the time to read this and God bless.
