Chris Corales Memorial
Chris Corales 1969-2018
It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of our dear friend Chris Corales, an extraordinarily gifted artist, a loving husband and father, and an overall generous and genuine human being. Chris’s art, born from found, antiquated and discarded materials took on remarkable new life teeming with poetic possibilities. He continually showed us incredible meaning and beauty in what was regularly cast aside or overlooked. His art helped him travel throughout his life, touching many creative communities from Pinole, CA where he grew up, to San Francisco, Portland, Philadelphia, and finally to Toronto, Ontario where he settled and began a family with his wife Adelina Vlas and their son Nikola (Niko). There was a purity to Chris, a heightened sensitivity which provided deep insight and strength that seems to exists less and less in this world...as well as an infectious smile and excellent taste in music.
Chris’s passing has left a deep void in many of the artistic communities he took part in, most especially with his friends and family. We would like to come together and help celebrate his life, as well as support his wife and young son through this difficult time. After a private family service today in Toronto, memorials are being planned for June in Philadelphia and San Francisco.
In order to help facilitate these gatherings, plus provide future support for the family to weather unexpected expenses that come from sudden loss, we have created this fundraiser to help Chris’s friends and family find solace through the love and support of our amazing community. It is our hope to pay forward the generosity and compassion Chris regularly displayed to others throughout his tragically short life.
