Chris cycles across Canada to help nourish kids
Hi everyone,
First of all, thanks for finding this site. My name is Chris Luff and I am the husband to my incredibly supportive wife Amy and the father to three adventurous boys who keep pushing me onward - Riley, Ethan and Wyatt.
I have worked with young people since I was a teenager - as a camp counsellor, then as a youth pastor, coach, tutor, and now as a fledgling teacher. I have ran after-school programs, breakfast clubs, and been a part of service projects in orphanages around the world. I have seen firsthand the need for kids to have a full meal in their bellies; to know they are valued, and to fuel them to succeed in the demanding environment of expanding their minds in class and at home. It is the most practical and basic of needs; and once met, we can then nourish the whole person in life long ways.
It is my belief that every kid should have the opportunity to healthy food on a daily basis and I know there are many of you out there who agree with me.
Help me make a difference by nourishing students locally, nationally and globally. Nourishing their body, mind and soul to help each young person to:
1) Know their worth
2) Set them up with the resources to succeed in school and life
3) And find their fit in society.
The problem is, not everyone is provided with the same kinds of resources. In 2022, it was reported that almost 20% of families across Canada experienced food insecurities and those numbers increase to 41% for single parent families. Additionally, vulnerable groups like Indigenous, Black Canadian, and Immigrant families are also reported in the 50-percentile range for food insecurity. These are the family units who make up a large part of our communities and our country as a whole and I would love to have your help in sharing some of our resources to feed young people who are not getting healthy meals on a daily basis to fuel them to succeed.
I am endeavouring to cross Canada on my bicycle May and June of 2024. My goal to represent this beautiful country I call home - that is made up of 13 provinces and territories - is to raise $13,000!
With your help I think that is more than possible. I am also hoping to help create awareness of the need for a nationwide food program. In fact, Canada is the only G7 country in the world (G7 meaning advanced economy country) without a national school food program and that needs to change.
I'm raising money to support Canadian Feed The Children, and any donation will help make an impact. What I love about this organization is they don’t stop their efforts just within the Canadian borders, they are also involved on the global scale of dealing with hunger. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
