Derek & Chris' ultra 470km challenge

Space North East are a charitable organisation based in the North East of England which offers support to men suffering from depression, anxiety and feelings of isolation. 

On Saturday 22nd June 2024, Derek Gamblin and Chris Batty, both ex-military will set out on a Coast to Coast challenge with a twist, in aid of Space North East - an organisation close to both their hearts. Derek and Chris will run the width of the UK, from Sunderland to Whitehaven - a total of 137.5 miles/221.2km. On reaching Whitehaven, they will swap their running shoes for bikes and will then cycle back to Sunderland. This means they will cover a grand total of 292 miles/470km. They will aim to do this in the fastest time possible with the clock starting as soon as they take their first step on the road from Sunderland. This will be a vehicle supported effort. Derek and Chris are aiming to raise as much money as possible for Space North East and to bring awareness to the valuable work they carry out in the community.
