Chris Landers Hunting Accident

This September, Chris Landers was involved in a terrible hunting accident. While carrying his bow and attempting to close the distance on a group of elk through thick brush, an arrow got caught and fell out of his quiver. The arrow landed, sticking upwards immediately in front of him, resting on the side of his shin. Without him noticing, he stepped forward and tripped as the arrow pierced his skin, sending the broadhead up through his calf, behind his knee and into the back of his thigh. The broadhead caused severe tissue and muscle damage and severed his peroneal nerve and fibular artery. Upon calling 911 a helicopter ambulance was dispatched and emergency first aid was administered by his hunting partners until first aid responders could get to the scene. Chris’s friends and many volunteer search and rescue members cleared a section of the forest for the helicopter to land so he could be loaded and transported to the nearest hospital for emergency care. The penetration of the arrow was extremely deep and Chris is very lucky to be alive thanks to his friends and the incredibly skilled first aid responders on scene. He made it to the hospital and immediately went into surgery, where they removed the arrow and stopped the bleeding. Since his peroneal nerve was severed and the muscle damage is severe, Chris was flown to a hospital specializing in nerve damage and has undergone six more surgeries. He is currently undergoing treatment with more surgeries to come and has a very long road to recovery ahead of him. At this time, mobility in his leg has still not been established, but it is still early and we are praying for his recovery every day.
Chris is a dedicated partner, an avid hunter, and a friend who would do anything for anyone in a hard situation. He is the primary earner in his household and works hard and selflessly while his devoted partner of 5 years, Taya, finishes the last year of her nursing degree. They will face significant financial struggles while Chris undergoes more surgeries and rehabilitation to regain function in his leg. Many of us have experienced firsthand how tight-knit the outdoors community is and whether you are a hunter, outdoorsman, family provider, or just a compassionate person, we hope you can sympathize with their difficult situation and help to alleviate some financial stress on a very caring, kind and selfless individual. Every dollar helps, and we understand that not everyone has a dollar to give, but a share to help spread the word would be greatly appreciated as well
