Chris Lum - His Care for Us to be Returned to Him
Donation protected
As some of you may be aware, Chris has been in a battle since the beginning of 2016 when he was diagnosed with a tumor on his esophagus as well as lymphoma. With a mortality rate of 47% and it being a complicated case, the numbers were stacked against him.
Chris witnessed his own mother's battle with pancreatic cancer, watching her suffer terribly through the horrible side effects until the person whom he referred to as his 'rock' was stripped of all life. Because of this he decided against chemo or radiation therapy, hoping to spare his own children from the same experience.
In the beginning he was treated At UCLA, Scripts, and UC San Diego where he had several procedures and treatments: Manometry studies , dilations , Botox , Heller myotomy, fundoplication, and a poem.
But nothing seemed to help and things just got worse. The simple act of eating, eating anything was literally like stuffing a golf ball through a garden hose. In September of 2020 he reached out to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix AZ where he had a full team take control of his health care. Another tumor was found on his already damaged esophagus and the thoracic Surgeon finally said it was best to just remove the esophagus completely.
As a result he's had a few complications and a complete lifestyle change. He will forever sleep sitting up. He gets most of his nutrition through a feeding tube. He cannot eat any food orally without it coming back up.
For the first year he traveled back and forth to Phoenix about 2x’s a month staying for a few days to a week at a time. Now it's about once a month for procedures and treatments. Everything; hotels, food, child care, dog/animal boarding, copayments, nurse visits, etc. has all been out of pocket. He's sold most of his valuable belongings to offset these expenses but he's running out of options. He can’t work anymore and has been put on permanent disability.
He's now waiting for social security disability benefits to kick in, but they say it's at least 4-5 months before he will see anything. This is where he could use your help.
Chris worked in the field of medical emergency for 15 years and an equal amount of years as a set medic in the motion picture industry, taking care of others. Let's help take care of him. Any donation is truly appreciated.
