Christopher Moore, one of our own Arvada natives was recently in a severe motorcycle accident on Thursday, November 7th 2013. Just moments up the street from his residence something happened that we may never be able to explain. Control of the bike was lost. Chris then crashed head first into the curbside leaving him with a severe head injury, a single laceration to the left side of his brain 3 inches in length and 2-3 cm in depth, a fractured pelvis, and a broken left collar bone, along with some road rash. His skull caved into a "V" when he hit the cement, and cut into his front right temporal lobe. The temporal lobes are involved in the retention of visual memories, processing sensory input, comprehending language, storing new memories, emotion, and deriving meaning.

Chris was just a few short blocks from home when the accident occurred. He had medical attention from the City Of Westminster's finest EMS, fire fighters, and police within minutes of his accident. As he was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette, CO he was almost immediately taken into emergency brain surgery, where they removed most of the left side of his skull and some of the right due to bleeding and swelling of the brain. Doctors did not expect Chris to make it out of surgery that night. It is nothing short of a miracle that he did!

He spent just over a week in ICU on full life support, and went almost instantly into a trauma induced coma. Today, Chris remains in a coma, but is now breathing on his own. Chris was given a tracheotomy to help him breathe, as he developed pneumonia within a few days of his accident.

The night before his accident was his son Joshua's 4th birthday. This was the last time they saw each other. Joshua is Chris' entire world. His family and friends believe that his son is his driving force to fight this every day. When the accident happened, Chris had just been laid off of his seasonal job with the City of Westminster, and he was about to start a job the following Monday. Unfortunately, he never made it. Chris does not have health insurance.

We are doing this fundraiser to help care for Chris's son Joshua while Chris is unable to, as well as help pay for the inevitable expenses yet to come. There is no way to tell when Chris will wake up from his coma, and what condition he will be in when he does wake up. The doctors have told us that he will need years of care, if not permanent care for the rest of his life.

From all of his family and friends, thank you!!
