The Chris Reid Garfield Elementary Playground Fund

Hello! My name is Corey Granstrand and I’m raising funds to update the playground at Garfield Elementary School in Yakima, WA in honor of my stepmother, Chris Reid.

Chris passed away on Tuesday, September 6th 2022, after battling ovarian cancer for two years. As with all things in her life, Chris faced the entire process with grace, dignity, and a loving spirit.

It was her loving spirit that drove Chris to dedicate  her career to bettering the lives of children, first as a math teacher and then as an elementary school librarian. She was also a champion to those in need and loved to get behind and contribute to a good cause.

Garfield Elementary School in Yakima, WA, the school at which Chris worked the last fourteen years of her career as librarian and to which she contributed much of her time and love, is in need of some enhancements to its playground. I would like to raise enough funds to purchase a permanent, free-standing canopy to provide a shady area to a playground that doesn't have any trees and to install benches under the awning and around the playground. Money would also be used to buy more sports equipment for the kids to use while at recess. These ideas have been approved by Garfield's principal, who is excited about the project.

This is a cause Chris talked about many times that will provide improvements at an elementary school that was dear to Chris's heart. Thank you for your support!
