A Truly Tragic Loss…

In the pre-dawn hours of May 31st Chris Robicheau died tragically in a head-on collision. Chris was no ordinary man. He was an elementary school teacher dedicated to his students and their families. He was an Eagle Scout, looking forward to guiding his own son on this unique journey. He was a loving husband and an incredible father. At 48, he had so much to look forward to in life; his loss has hit his family and his community hard. Sadly, his sudden death is not the only burden that his wife, Celia, has to bear.

Five years ago, Chris and Celia’s family life was turned upside down when their precious daughter was diagnosed with anorexia We, the members of Team Robicheau, can tell you there is no bigger challenge to a parent or a family.  For the past 5 years, several of us have been privileged to fight side by side with Celia as we helped our sons and daughters and supported countless others going through this struggle. It takes a village to beat a serious mental illness, and we have no doubt that Celia is the unofficial Mayor of our village.

Chris and Celia fought tirelessly as a unified front to get their daughter out of harm’s way from anorexia, but their fight turned into a relentless game of whack-a-mole as they dealt with severe depression and other issues. Mind you, Chris and Celia as dedicated educators never stopped looking out for the kids in his classroom or the children she counseled. They worked heroically to maintain a normal life for their two other children as their ill sister’s journey got harder and harder requiring residential and inpatient treatment.

As difficult as this has been, Chris and Celia were slowly winning this battle, never worrying about how they were going to pay, just focusing on their daughter's health. No parent should have to endure such turmoil to save their kid, and it is hard to imagine a situation like this getting worse. For those of us, who know this warrior couple, Chris’ untimely loss took our breath away. As the reality sunk in, our minds started racing. How is Celia going to carry on? Their daughter’s care required two parents full-time attention and every penny they could spare from two salaries. On top of this, she now must cover funeral costs and figure out how to pay for college on a single income as her eldest heads into Senior year.

We have started this campaign to ease the family’s financial pain. Their emotional devastation should not translate into financial devastation. If you have ever known that person who would give the coat off her back in a winter storm, then you know Celia. If one elementary school teacher sticks out in your mind as the person who inspired your child to love learning, then you know Chris. Together, they gave so much to so many communities, it is time for us to give back. Celia and her kids need help with funeral costs, medical bills, and everyday living expenses as they navigate the tragic loss of their beloved father and husband. Please consider donating to her family and sharing this campaign on social media.
