I am very sad to write that Chris Webber was diagnosed with leukemia last week at the Scott & White ER here in Round Rock. From there, he was transported to Scott & White Hospital in Temple for further testing and treatment.
On Monday, Jan. 7th they learned the type of leukemia was acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) - a cancer of the blood and bone marrow - and that he would initially need to undergo 4 weeks of intense chemotherapy. Chris will remain in Temple during this time so they can closely monitor his treatment and how he responds. He is also receiving blood transfusions and platelets to keep those counts in check as they are also affected by his leukemia. The course of action after this initial treatment will be determined after this round of chemo. The hope is that he will be able to go home and if further treatments are necessary that he would be able to do them on an outpatient basis.
The good news is that Chris has always been very healthy and strong and they have caught this early. But they do have a long road ahead of them and along with that comes loss of income, travel expenses and mounting medical bills.
Many know Chris and his family through baseball and the countless hours he has given of himself coaching and supporting various baseball programs from RRBL, Texas Hardball, Canes SW, and Round Rock Dragon Baseball (Chris is currently the president of the RR Dragon Baseball Booster Club). Others know him from his days at Anderson High School, from his work at Doors R Us, through his sweet wife Leslie and the Meyer family, the RRHS Fishing Team or even from his time on the golf course.
Personally speaking, I have known the Webber family for the past 20 years…we lived across the street for 15 of those years, seeing each other almost every day. We have raised our kids together, played years of baseball together and they are like family to us. When my own husband had a spinal cord injury in 2010, they were there for us from the very beginning. Chris stepped up and helped in ways I cannot begin to count, and still does all these years later. We could never repay their family for all the help they have given us over the years, but now it is our turn to be there for them. And they are so grateful for all the love and support they have received from so many already.
I asked Chris if I could create this page to help relieve some of the stress and burden they are already facing, as we understand all too well how overwhelming exorbitant medical expenses can be and the toll it takes on a family's finances. Chris is one of the hardest working men I know, and has always taken great pride in how well he takes care of his family, so this is difficult for him. But I know there are so many who love Chris and his family, and if able, would be happy to help however they can.
For anyone that is able to contribute, thank you – they will appreciate it more than you know. Donating blood is also an often overlooked way to help, but is absolutely helpful - not just for Chris, but patients in need across the board.
Please send up some prayers for Chris, Leslie, Cade, Cooper and the entire Webber and Meyer families...they are a very loving, close-knit family and this is very difficult for them as well. Please share this post so we can help this wonderful family through this incredibly challenging time...thank you!
