No matter how many people you hear are fighting cancer, you still NEVER, EVER think it'll happen to you!
Chris had been dealing with some pretty intense stomach pains since the spring. As the pains got worse throughout the summer, we knew he had to get checked out!
Fast forward to fall where we had him scheduled for a colonoscopy. The whole week prior, we joked about it, because SURELY the doctor was just going to tell him to stop drinking coffee and eating pizza. But to our dismay, that's not what he said.
The doctor told us that he found a mass in Chris's colon. We couldn't believe it. Almost couldn't understand it! A biopsy was performed and tested during the next week. Then, while Chris was at work, he got one of the worst phone calls in his life...The Dr told him he had cancer! Cancer!! After several more tests and doctor's visits, we found out that Chris has at least Stage 2 Colon Cancer (this isn't verified until after the surgery and pathology tests).
We are currently waiting for the surgery date to remove the tumor, but know it will happen before Thanksgiving; the sooner the better as Chris is still dealing with a lot of pain. We will know after the surgery if the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes, and if Chris will need further treatment (such as chemo, etc). The surgeon has informed us that Chris will be out of work for at least 4 weeks (possibly longer) to recover; in which time he will not be receiving a paycheck.
Chris is a loving father of two great little boys. He has a day job, but as his side job, his passion is photography. He's incredibly funny, a great son to his parents, and would surprise you if you're lucky with his wicked concert piano skills.
Dealing with cancer is scarier and more surreal than one can imagine; all the questions and fears; add LIFE, responsibilities and everything else to the mix and it becomes even more challenging.
We are asking for help in this GoFundMe campaign to assist with the exorbitant medical fees as well as day-to-day living expenses during the month of recovery. We are trying to remain positive and focus on recovering (and hoping the cancer hasn't spread), and any help you can give is appreciated much more than you know.
Sincerely,
Natalie & Chris
