The "Get Chris Back On His Feet" Fund

“...When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” - Mr. Rodgers, Pittsburgh's Finest
Without going into the horrific details here (perhaps you too have heard about these "scary things in the news"), on Tuesday, December 11th, Chris Matechen's world was flipped upside down. Though always a loving, trusting, and honest partner, within minutes Chris received the unfathomable news that he'd been gravely deceived, resulting in the immediate and permanent dissolution of his relationship, along with the the sorrowful news that he'd both fathered and lost two premature infants - their existence kept from him entirely in an elaborate web of unnerving (and unbelievable) lies.
With your help, this won't be how the story ends. Now Chris is set to deal with the intense and unimaginable emotional ramifications of his former partner's deception, and he'll need to rebuild a large portion of his life from scratch. There is - without a doubt - hope for Chris' future, but not without quite a bit of help. That's where we come in.
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to do just as the title suggests: "Get Chris Back On His Feet". He'll need to move away from the home he once shared, of course, and dealing with such intense loss will require a natural grieving period that might take him away from his work. Chris has friends throughout the country, and because all of us can't get to him to share a hug or a laugh, perhaps this might be a way for us to do something, anything, to help out just a bit. Let's help give Chris the space to heal and rebuild, easing his financial burdens along the way, giving him hope for his new normal and future, and reminding him of the intense love and light that still exists in the world.
If you can't donate, I'm certain Chris (who didn't ask for this GoFundMe, for the record) would hope that you'd do one thing: love and support one another with authentic care and honesty. Check in on Chris, call a favorite family member, get back in touch with a old friend, donate to your favorite charity; anything to shine a light in a world that - with shocking stories like this one - can all too often feel quite dark.
Let's be "the helpers" for Chris.
