Help Christa Moritz Fight for Her Life
Donation protected
Friends, family, community -- we need your help to support the kindest, creative, earth angel. It’s our turn to rally for the girl that always supports those around her, who cares deeply for others, and brings warmth and optimism everywhere she goes.
On Saturday 9/18 Christa Moritz was hospitalized after a severe fall during an afternoon scooter ride near downtown Denver. Being the badass we know and love, she tried to shake it off and carry on after getting her surface-level cuts cleaned and bandaged by her husband. Christa seemed fine initially but collapsed about 2 hours after the initial crash. She was rushed via ambulance to Denver Health where they discovered she had 2 facial fractures on both sides of her jaw. While working to manage her pain, they realized she had multiple blood clots from damage to a major artery in her neck under the fracture. She was immediately moved to UC Health - Anschutz Medical Campus, where they took MRI scans and found severe swelling and bleeding on her brain. The doctors attempted a Thrombectomy to clear up the clot but were unsuccessful due to the carotid artery being damaged. The next move was to perform a craniectomy to allow her brain to swell and gradually heal so nothing else would get damaged. The craniectomy was successful and she is now stable in the Neuro ICU, and on a ventilator where she will stay for at least a week. The doctors have confirmed that she tore her carotid artery, which produced a clot, causing a major Ischemic stroke. They also confirmed that she has right-side brain damage and left-side weakness/paralysis. The outlook right now is a very long road of rehab in both speech and movement, but it is still too early to tell what abilities have been impacted.
We are asking for your financial support to help Christa + Sam cover the cost of Christa’s medical care and help supplement Sam’s loss of income during this time so he can take care of Christa. This incredible creative duo is dependent on their ability to share their talents with the world, so your donation is needed and so very much appreciated. Please donate whatever you can to help them cover daily expenses, but most importantly, medical expenses that will come in the months ahead. No donation is too small for her road to recovery!
Please share this GoFundMe campaign with all of your friends and family and anybody whose life has been touched by Christa using the hashtag #ChristasComeback. We are also setting up a meal plan as an additional way to support the family. We will share those details in a future update.
