Pierce & Heather’s Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Heather Christie’s dad Pierce suffered a severe stroke from a blood clot in his brainstem 3 weeks ago in Astoria, Oregon. His sensory, respiratory, and motor skills are barely functioning. Because the brainstem controls involuntary functions, he cannot talk, swallow or breathe on his own. After spending 10 days in the Neuro Critical Unit, Pierce is now in an acute care facility in Portland, fighting to get off life-support. It's a long uphill battle but he isn't alone. His family has been gathering from far and wide in support, and Heather has taken on the responsibility of managing his affairs as the closest local family member. Pierce is currently 90% paralysed, but his upper brain functions are all working strong and he is determined to recover. He is making small but steady progress every single day, but he needs support. Many friends and community members have reached out for an opportunity to help, so here it is.

A life-long musician and pillar of the Astoria community, Pierce raised Heather with a real love for both music and community.  He helped launch her musical career, while mentoring countless aspiring musicians through “The Mallternative”, his eclectic music shop in Astoria. Unfortunately, like many musicians, Pierce did not have any “safety net” for himself, and Heather has been scrambling to navigate through the medical system, insurance, care facilities, and to keep The Mallternative running. This is all while her own place of employment, a Portland music venue called “Vie De Boheme” suddenly closed in September, so the financial and emotional stress has been very high.

Pierce and Heather will face staggering medical bills and loss of wages. In addition to covering Pierce's care, the funds from this campaign will be used to keep his apartment as a family home base and offset Heather's burgeoning expenses as she jumps back and forth from the Portland hospital to Astoria, facilitating his recovery, relocations and rehabilitation. We are hoping to support them for 6 months. If you are able to help lessen their  financial worries for any period of time, she and her dad will be forever grateful. Please share and keep their family in your prayers.
