This is for Christina and Will Shifflett. Christina is one of my best friends. The kind of friend that you can trust with your life. We live far apart but we are always there for each other for support. Christina married the love of her life October 12th, 2018. They currently live in Houston. Working, living life, and taking care of their beautiful blended family. They have 3 amazing children!
Recently, Will has been experiencing some bruising and fatigue for the last 2 weeks. He woke up a couple days ago with a large bruise and pain in his left elbow and Christina was finally able to talk him into going to the ER. They ran test and found that his blood counts were extremely low. They started thinking Leukemia. So they transferred him to a larger more specialized facility.
Wednesday night 7/8/2020, his left are started swelling into his chest. They took him to surgery that night to drain it. The doctors were unable to extubate him due to fluid overload so he was transferred to the ICU. His arm began to swell again. They took him back to surgery to drain it, however, during the surgery his potassium elevated quickly and he went into cardiac arrest. They performed CPR for a long period of time and were able to get him back. Unfortunately, they had to amputate this left arm because of major infection. Getting rid of the infection helped lower his potassium.
He was finally stable enough for Christina to see him on Thursday. He wasn't responding to painful stimuli, his pupils were fixed and dilated, and he was on 3 medications to maintain his blood pressure. He is getting dialysis to help correct his imbalances. Christina is trying her best to stay strong and luckily during this time of Covid, the hospital is letting her be by his side periodically.
He is fighting for his life and no where near out of danger yet. Christina needs to be at her husbands side during this time, however, we all know that the bills do not stop. Not only do these two loving generous people need our prayers, they could also use donations. We can pull together to help them during this traumatic time in their lives. I know it will bless Will, Christina, and their 3 children in ways we can not imagine. Any amount helps and lets Christina spend another day at her husbands bedside. Thank you.
