Christina Burke Fund
Christinas Obituary
The Burke family has been blessed with a delightfully overwhelming outreach from friends of Christina these last few days. Contributions to this fund will go towards the copious amounts of medical bills that find their way into the mailbox daily, as well as trust funds for the children (Sam and Julia) so that when the time comes they can follow in their mother's education driven footsteps. We had no idea how to respond to the outreach, though none of us were surprised when people we had never met or herd of contacted us to share the impact Christina had on their lives with us. We just want to say "thank you" a thousand times from the tops and bottoms of our hearts for contributions of every kind. Of love and hope and memories and flowers and monetary donations and so much more.
In the words of my beautiful little sister Julia, "Today, I am happy-sad." I am happy to have known such an amazing person, and not just know her, but be touched and changed and guided and cared for by her. I am sad to have to let her go. I'd say she will never know the remarkable ways which she has helped people, but the reason she did what she did was because she understood the impact. "Use your powers for good, not evil," she would tell people. She lead by unmatchable and irreplaceable example. Christina did not lose a battle with cancer. She spent six years kicking the shit out of it so she could continue to use her powers for good for as long as possible. She kicked cancers ass for six years so that she could help others for as long as she could. For six years she didn't think about herself once. January 12th she did what was best for her and not everybody else for the first time in six years. She taught us all that she could and then she set herself free. So many people will be forever a better person because of her. I am a better person because of her. "Today, I am happy-sad."
